Montague in Boston Magazine Home

A few years ago, when architect and inventor Harry Montague couldn’t find an ideal collapsible bicycle, he vowed to make one himself.  His design was so successful, he began selling the custom bikes out of his garage.  In 1988, he partnered with son David, an MIT-trained engineer, to turn his hobby into the Cambridge-based Montague Corporation.  Last fall, the company debuted its popular SwissBike LX (shown), which sports a 29-pound aluminum frame, front disc brakes, and 24-speeds. At $899, it’s not exactly a bargain, but it’s guaranteed to handle even the toughest morning commute.
