Montague is excited to present a completely re-designed folding bike line for 2016. In addition to brand new folding technology, 2016 Montague bikes feature new accessories, updated specs, and a fresh new look. Here’s a quick overview of what’s new with our Pavement line.
New Folding System: DirectConnect™
DirectConnect is the new folding system from Montague. It removes the quick release from the top tube creating a sleek look, provides stronger clamping between the two halves of the frame, and simplifies operation.
RackStand™
The Eurobike Award winning RackStand is standard equipment on five of Montague’s 2016 folding bikes. The patented design acts as a traditional cargo rack with built in fender, and also rotates under the rear wheel to serve as a kickstand, workstand, and folded bike display.
New Head Tube and Graphics
A new head tube design allows for integrated headsets which hide the bearings inside the frame’s tubing. The result is a smooth transition from the stem, all the way down to the fork. Every model has an updated look with fresh paint, decals, and brighter colors.
Disc Brake Road Bikes
For the first time Montague pavement bikes come equipped with disc brakes. The FIT and Navigator will boast better stopping power and performance in wet weather with Tektro mechanical disc brakes, while the Allston takes it up a notch with Shimano hydraulics.
Belt Drive
The Allston is equipped with a Gates carbon belt drive. It requires no lubrication, is virtually silent, and is cleaner, lighter weight and longer lasting than a traditional chain. It also won’t stretch over time, maintaining its efficiency for its entire lifespan.

Did Montague drop the Boston 8 from the product line? I bought one and it is a great bike at a decent price. I prefer hub gear bikes and while I love the new Allston, it is almost twice the price of the Boston 8.
With the addition of the Allston and the Urban, we did discontinue the Boston 8. We agree it was a great bike and we’re always looking to improve our product line, so you never know what will be coming in the future!
An “Urban 8” would be amazing. Your new Allston has me dreaming, to be sure, but it’s more than my wife and I are looking to spend given our usage. We like the low-maintenance, shift-anytime aspects of internal hubs. Even our bikes with well-maintained derailleurs have occasional hiccups in operation that take away from the fun of the ride. Although one of the big factors is eccentric angles at bad combinations from the front triple.
On another topic, I have a folding bike with Avid BB7 road disc brakes. One trouble they exhibit is seating/unseating the rotor from the caliper seems to bump it. I almost always have to re-calibrate the calipers whenever I remove and restore the front wheel. Or maybe my local bike shop is incompetent and they don’t have them installed right. One of those two things. 😉 I know you recently added disc brakes, but figuring out how to use, say, a 70 or 90mm roller brake would be pretty sweet too. No rim wear and should be easy to disconnect/reconnect, although I guess you’d have to detach both the CLIX quick release as well as the front brake cable.
I’ll be keeping an eye on your products.
Hi, could you let me know the best way to get the new Paratrooper pro 2016 in the uk?
Our UK distributor, 2×2 Worldwide should have them available in the near future: http://www.montaguebikes.com/uk.html
Is there anyway to order one myself or order in to another shop because the prices that website charge are ridiculous. They are charging £1000 for the 2015 Paratrooper Pro, when I could easily get the exact same bike from a legit bike shop for £600 with one google search. please help me get to get this bike.
I just ordered an Allston online from Cycleshedstores and would like to know if I wanted to put a suspension fork on it since the front wheel is a 29/300 would it be possible and which one would you recommend. I am 6’2″ 220.
Hi Jimmy. You could certainly add a suspension fork the Allston if you wanted. I would get a fork intended for a 700c wheel though. It will change the geometry of your bike slightly since the fork will naturally be longer than a non-suspension fork, but you probably don’t need much travel. You could even check out the Suntour Swing Shock which is a short travel fork and won’t affect the geometry much.
When will the 2016 models become available in the USA? Specifically I am interested in the Paratrooper Pro and Highline.
They are currently available! Ask your local bike shop to order one, or give us a call at 800-736-5348 to order one direct.
Can the rack stand be easily added to the Paratrooper Highline?
RackStand is currently only available as original equipment on five of our complete bikes, but we are planning to sell it separately in the future. We should have the aftermarket version for sale in early summer, which will be compatible with the Highline.
hello, has the aftermarket rackstand been released yet? I have an older model montague I would like to add it to.
Not quite but we are hoping to have it available in the next 2 weeks!
Question: 1. Can I install 26″ rim in Navigator, 2. Can install caliper type brakes in Navigator?
3. When I order Navigator, do I have to tell a dealer for these requirements or after I receive standard Navigator, change the parts myself? Which one is cost effective?
If you wanted to make changes to the parts on any of our models, they would have to be aftermarket. We’re just not set up to make a customization like that at our warehouse. While you could physically put 26″ wheels on one of our 700c bikes, it would lower the bottom bracket and change the geometry a bit. Also the rims would be farther from the brake bridges and it might be tough to find brake calipers that reach, although I’m not sure how much different it would be without testing.
You may want to consider the Urban model instead of the Navigator, as it has the RackStand and rim brakes.
Can the Paratrooper Pro be ordered with, or retrofitted with 27.5 wheels/tires?
You could retrofit the Paratrooper Pro frame with 27.5″ wheels, but we’re not set up to make a change like that in our warehouse. There is plenty of clearance in the frame, and while the front wheel should fit in the stock 26″ fork, you may want to upgrade to a 27.5″ specific fork if it’s tight.
When will the 2016 models be available as framesets?
Right now I don’t know of any plan to bring in 2016 framesets. We may get more individual frames in the future but probably not this year.
I’ve been looking for a decent rack to go on my Montague for a while. All those I’ve tried have compromised the fold in some way so it’s great there’s finally one custom made for the purpose.
Is it possible to retro-fit the rack stand to all previous years Montague pavement bikes?
Also, with the rack stand fitted, will the bike still fit in the carry bag?
Finally, how much does it weigh?
Thanks!
Right now RackStand is only available as original equipment on five of our complete bikes, but we are planning to sell it separately in the future. We should have the aftermarket version for sale in late spring/early summer, which will be compatible with any bike. hi there, may i ask if the 2015 paratrooper will have the aftermarket available?
when should i expect it?
and how much?
there’s a promo on the 2015 models and i dont mind doing it without the direct connect.
We’re just starting to sell aftermarket RackStands in the US now which retail for $99.95. This first batch of RackStands is shipping exclusively to bike shops, so please have your local shop order one if you’re interested!
I’ve ordered a 2016 Navigator to go along with my 2007 Paratrooper, and I’ll turn my Paratrooper back into a mountain bike (currently used as a commuter with slicks, a bike rack, fenders, etc) for use with the local Search & Rescue group.
One of the reasons I pulled the trigger on a new Navigator is the integrated rack. I’d like to buy a rack bag for it. What are the dimensions of the flat area of the integrated rack?
Thanks!
The top of the rack is about 6″ wide and 15 1/2″ long. Most bags that mount on the top of a rack are adjustable to fit different widths, and certainly and standard pannier for the side will work.
Can I retrofit older model paratrooper (2015) with the new rackstand and will you sell it as accessory ?
Currently it’s only available as original equipment on five of our complete bikes, but we are planning to sell it separately in the future. We should have the aftermarket version for sale in the US in the next month or so, which would be compatible with most of our previous model year bikes. To be informed as soon as it’s available you could subscribe to our newsletter list: http://www.montaguebikes.com/newsletter-signup.html
I’ve just bought an older model (2015) of the Urban in the UK. Should it have come with a RackStand?
The RackStand is brand new for 2016, so it was not available on any of our 2015 models.
Is the RackStand compatible with my Boston 8?
The current aftermarket version of the RackStand does need a quick release rear hub for mounting. So the current Boston, as well as Boston 8s and X50s from previous model years cannot use it. However, we should have a solution for this in the future with later versions of the RackStand.
Hi,
I have a 2006 Montague mountain mx bike and was wondering where I can get a spare bolt for the top tube quick release latch as I’ve lost the bolt and now only have the rod and latch that’s connected to it. Any assistance would be fantastic as now I’m unable to ride this fabulous bike!
We have replacement frame quick releases available. They’re not online but you can give us a call at 800-736-5348 to order one.
I am considering ordering a blank FIT frame and building the rest of the bike around that. Thank you for making frames available for sale! Other than the obvious consequence that drops would make the bike fold into a larger size bundle, are there any structural counter-indications to that?
Alternatively (as I really like the bike as is, other than the bars), I may order the bike as it comes and change only those, plus of course the brakes and shift-levers, adding hoods, etc. Is that possible? The choice flips at the question of changing to carbon wheels, which are always the major expense.
Hello!
What is the difference between Navigator, Crosstown and Urban frames? Can I upgrade Urban bike to Navigator ?
Thank you!
The difference between those models is really in the components. The frames are essentially the same, although they are equipped with different forks. The only real difference is that the Crosstown is not equipped with a front derailleur so there are no cable stops on the frame for a front derailleur cable.
The Urban could be upgraded to use all the same or similar components as the Navigator, but we’re not set up to do this at our warehouse. It would have to be aftermarket parts.
Hi, can i swap out the rigid fork on the Navigator for a suspension fork ? Any recommendations ?
Thanks
Yes you can use a 700c suspension fork on the Navigator. It just needs to have a 1 1/8″ threadless steerer tube and a disc brake mount (assuming this is for a disc brake equipped Navigator not an older model).
can I upgrade 2016 urban to disk brakes?
Hi Leo. If your bike has disc brake mounts on the frame and fork, you can certainly upgrade to disc brakes. I can’t say with certainly whether your 2016 Urban would have those mounts or not since it could vary depending on the exact production and facility it came from. However, you can easily see those mounts by looking on the non-drive side of the bike. They would stick out from the backside of the fork in the front and the top of the dropout in the rear. If you were to add disc brakes, you would also need a new wheelset with disc compatible hubs.
