Just last week, Interbike 2014, the largest bicycle trade show in North America took place in Las Vegas, Nevada. Montague made the journey out west to exhibit our full-size folding bikes, show off some cool new ideas, and take in what the show had to offer. We headed out early to setup our booth and prepare for the flood of dealers and industry professionals that would soon fill the hall. Flying into Las Vegas always provides some interesting views as you pass over the mountains of Colorado coming from the east, and see the canyons and rock formations in the deserts of the southwest.
Interbike 2014 was held in the Mandalay Bay Convention Center. Monday and Tuesday before the show are when the Outdoor Demo day happens. Attendees can test ride bikes and new products at Bootleg Canyon in neighboring Boulder City, Nevada. Many of the exhibitors take this time to setup their booths for the upcoming 3 day show, and inside the convention center is a chaotic dance of forklifts, lighting trusses, bicycles, and frantic construction.
Interbike Day 1 opened at 9:00 AM on Wednesday. Excitement was in the air.
In the Montague Bikes booth (#5087) a fastest folding competition was held. Whoever could take one of our full-size folding bikes from the riding position to folded in the fastest time, took home a cash prize. People got very competitive and our booth was packed.
The evening of Interbike Day 1 held a special treat for attendees and exhibitors alike. Cross Vegas, the largest cyclocross race in the US was to take place at the Desert Breeze Soccer Complex just minutes down the road from the Las Vegas strip. After a hearty meal (there is no lack of hearty meals available in Vegas), we headed to Cross Vegas to see the action.
Day 2 was by far the busiest, as bike shop owners, employees, buyers, distributors, and product managers from all over the US, Canada and beyond packed into the Mandalay Bay for a look at the latest the bike industry has to offer.
Our folding contest continued with renewed interest as times continued to get faster and faster. A few people developed a technique to open both quick releases (wheel and frame) at the same time and fold in 1 fluid motion. Once the frame was folded it had to be raised chest high for the clock to stop. The best times were under 1 second!
Take a look at a few more photos of Interbike 2014 below and see the fun the Montague crew had in Las Vegas this year. Day 3 was open to the public, and we expect it will be next year too. Be sure to come visit us!
Thanks to everyone who came out to Interbike 2014!
What a great event. It’s good to see people who love downhill mountain bikes and other mountain bike enthusiast in one place. It makes you feel like you’re home.
