Interbike is North America’s premier bicycle industry trade show. Each fall the leading manufacturers, retailers, and cycle media gather in Las Vegas, Nevada for a look at the latest trends and new products for the coming year. Montague presented their fully redesigned 2016 bike line as well as the award winning RackStand to much fanfare.
Flying over the desert into Nevada always has wonderful views.
The Mandalay Bay convention center was host to this year’s show. Their recent expansion allowed for even more exhibitors, making this the largest Interbike to date.
After a day and a half of set up, the show officially opened on Wednesday. The booth prominently featured the new Montague color scheme and logo alongside a 2016 line of bikes seeing their US premiere.
Montague’s new folding system called DirectConnect™, removes the quick release from the top tube, provides a larger clamping surface between the two halves of the frame, and simplifies operation.
The newly designed RackStand™ acts as a traditional luggage carrier perfectly suited for Montague folding bikes, includes an integrated fender, and rotates under the wheel to act as a kickstand, workstand, or stand for the folded bike.
The revamped bike line includes 27.5″ wheel mountain bikes, road bikes with wide knobby tires and disc brakes, and several new models. Of course all the bikes fold easier than ever for convenient travel or storage. The RackStand can be seen in use here as a stand for the two lower bikes.
A new head tube design for 2016 allows for internal headsets, while new graphics give the bikes an updated look.
After being previewed at last year’s show, Montague’s first belt drive folding bike is now in production.
It wouldn’t be a trip to Las Vegas without visiting the old town!
Our Taiwanese distributor Yark even came to Interbike this year. Thanks for coming to visit us Harry, and a big Thank You to everyone who came out to make this a great show!
Look for the 2016 line of Montague folding bikes later this year.
I’m very excited about this new line of montague bikes! Is there an expected date of when these new models will be available?
Thanks Dan, we’re excited too! Right now we expect 2016 bike models to be available in the US in early December. Arrival dates for other countries around the world will vary.
I am rebuilding and respraying my paratrooper and early next year my boston, do you supply frame graphics for these bikes? The new ones look really good.
Hi Michael. We don’t have any physical decals available, but send us an email and we may be able to supply some artwork you could have printed locally.
Hey Michael,
Check out my Montague I just rebuilt and sold:
Ebay Item No: 221896898878
I can give you the name of the guy that did my decals if you like.
Best

Hi Mike E
Many thanks for offer, your bike looks good, mine has the single large body piece, I think I will take up the offer of graphics artwork and have my daughter air brush them on
Is the Allston (the Gates belt) bicycle have an internal hub for speeds and is it a 700 cc tire, about 26 – 28 width.
Hey Barry. The Allston uses a Shimano Alfine 11 speed internal gear hub and 700c x 38mm tires.
Hey saw you guys at interbike. Met Ryan outside just as a friend and I were about to ride our Paratrooper pro’s in the mobile social ride. Cool guy, just wanted to get a copy of the picture he took of us. Next year you guys definitely need to come cruise the strip with us. Maybe team up with Tern. Anyway thanks again for such a good product.
Hey Doug. Nice meeting you last week! Shoot me an email to marketing@montaguebikes.com and I’ll send over the photos. We’d love to join the Mobile Social next year. We were having dinner with one of our distributors that night this time around. – Ryan
Nice! The designs look very promising, particularly the new DirectConnect system. Is the 2016 bike line already featured here in the website?
Not quite yet. We should have them up a bit closer to the launch date. If you get on our newsletter list you’ll be notified right away!
I am the buider of I think the First Folding Montague bike with a gates belt.
You can check this on the blog of your company. Seach for the lean mean machine
I am still using this bike and it is still my most favourite bike. I use him when I go beach biking
en Mountainbiking. In the first two year I also used the bike for tracking. In 2011 I built ore should I say rebuilt this bike.
I would like to buy a bike with a gates belt in 27,5 inch off course one for the Moutainbiking.
I was wandering if your factory will, and can do somthing special for a pioneer like me.
The best regards

Hey Ron. Yep, here’s your bike featured on our blog back in 2012: http://www.montaguebikes.com/folding-bikes-blog/2012/02/a-lean-mean-off-roading-machine/
Right now we don’t have any plans for a belt drive mountain model, but we’ll see how popular the Allston is. Perhaps we’ll expand our belt drive offerings! Unfortunately, it’s not really possible to make a one off frame as unique as a belt drive 27.5″ MTB. Our factory would need a large production run.
When will the fender/rack be available for the Paratrooper? I do some touring, and a heavier duty rack able to handle panniers would be great.
Initially it will only be original equipment on our 2016 bike models, which will be arriving in the US in early December. We are planning to sell RackStand separately, but it will be coming later. I don’t have an exact date yet, but we’ll be pushing to make them available as soon as possible!
Hi, I wanted to know if there’s any chance that any of your MTB’s other than the Swissbike x50 will ever come with 16″ frames. My wife is insanely in love with my Paratrooper Pro, but the 18″ frame is just a bit too big for her. She’s holding off buying a non-folding MTB, hoping that maybe your 2016 line will provide the frame she needs.
You’re in luck Bob. We are planning to have a 16″ Paratrooper in the US for 2016. We should have them available in December!
Fantastic! Problem solved. I think that’ll take care of my wife’s Xmas list.
When will the 2016 Allston be available?
We’ve already had some in stock and sold out. We should be receiving more at the end of April though. If you’d like one you should place a back order now. Many of this shipment are already accounted for!
Looks fantastic – is the Rackstand still going to come out as a stand-alone product as well, and if so do you have a rough idea of when this might be coming out in the UK??
Also, will it fit to a 2015 X50??
We are planning to sell RackStand separately in the future. We should have the aftermarket version for sale in the US in early summer, then in Europe a bit later. To be informed as soon as it’s available, you could subscribe to our newsletter list: http://www.montaguebikes.com/newsletter-signup.html
Once we have the aftermarket version ready, it’s really up to our European distributors as to when they order them.
Thank you! Will this fit the 2015 x50 model??
I don’t believe the first version of the aftermarket RackStand will have hardware to mount to a bolt on hub. However, if you replaced the stock rear wheel with a quick release one, it would work.
I’m hoping in the future we will have special made bolts for mounting, because they’re necessary for the Boston and our previous Boston 8 model.
Hello,
I love my Boston 8 and I am eagerly awaiting to add a Rackstand . Any idea when you will make that available? If I purchase the current rackstand can it be adapted to the Boston 8?
Thank you,
Damienne
This first version of the aftermarket RackStand is designed only to mount on quick release rear wheels, so unfortunately it’s not compatible with the Boston 8’s internal gear hub. Hopefully we will have a solution for mounting RackStand to bolt on hubs in the future.
