The release of the 2016 Montague bike line in the US is just around the corner. Here’s a look at the brand new Paratrooper Elite, our new 27.5″ wheel, high end mountain bike model.
The Paratrooper Elite is equipped with a Shimano XT drivetrain, Shimano XT hydraulic disc brakes, and 27.5″ Mavic XM319 wheels.
I have had a parratrooper for 10 plus years Take it everywhere I go Just beautiful and a part of me now. Tempted to purchase another one even though the original is still going strong. What is the weight of the latest parratrooper I imported my original trooper from the US way back then. I live in Papua New Guinea and Australia
When will the first of the 2016 troopers be available.
regards
barry
Hi, I have a paratrooper bicycle and it is very usable and firm bike, I use it almost everywhere.
Now I am interested in with this new paratrooper elite bicycle and need to know its price, when it will be available on market and when all dealer will be ready to sale that model.
Thank you in advance.
Best regards
Mirian
Hi Mirian. The Paratrooper Elite will retail for $2449.00 in the US. I believe we will have some available in December. Most of our 2016 models should be arriving then. Time of availability will vary in other countries, so it depends where you’re looking to purchase.
If I’m looking to purchase in seattle, Washington, in the USA, when can I get the 2016 paratrooper pro ??
The 2016 mountain bikes ended up being produced a bit later than the pavement bikes. We should have them in the US around the beginning of January. Around Seattle you could contact Angle Lake Cyclery or Electric & Folding Bikes Northwest. They’re both on our dealer locator at http://www.montaguebikes.com/locate-folding-bike-dealer.html
Guys,
Is there any prediction of having a dealer in Brazil ?
They are amazing and I dream to have one of these.
There are plans to sell only the frames model 27.5 2016 ?
Thanks.
Hi Keke. We are definitely looking for distribution in Brazil. It’s a great market and we see lots of interest from riders there! It is challenging to import bicycles into the country, so it requires the right company there to work with. We won’t initially have 2016 frame sets available, but perhaps eventually. You can actually squeeze a 27.5″ wheel into our current mountain frame, there’s just less tire clearance.
Hey, nice hint ! But, I would like to ask you guys witch tire measures should I get to adapt a 27’5 wheel on my Paratrooper 18″, 26″ wheel. The 27″,5 – 2.10 left enough tire clearance? Any suggestion on tire dimensions for this adaptation, any measure limits to avoid accidents or malfunction?
Thanks guys
I have seen a few conversions to 27.5″ on our 26″ frames that use 2.10″ tires without issue. The clearance is pretty tight, so it might depend on the tire tread. Not all tires measure true to their labeled size, but as long as their not a lot larger they should fit.
Hi,I’ve had a Paratrooper for several years and love it.But is there any chance of making a Fat Bike version soon?
I don’t know of a current plan to produce a folding fat bike, but a few of us here would definitely love to see one! We’re always looking to improve our bike line with feedback from our customers, so it’s a possibility for the future.
I also want a fat tire paratrooper!!!
Please do it!
We’ve certainly looked into it but it would have quite a large folded size. I’ll pass it along your feedback to our product manager. The more people that ask for it…
PLEEESE,I WILL BUY IT! Believe it or not,it would be very practical for ultra touring,to be alert to fold the bike and put it in a canoe,to carry it through hard to navigate woods or brush,it would also be more practical to store in an apartment, making the fatbike more ergonomically practical-just think,it could be the ultimate pocket knife of all bikes!
Folding Fat Bike great idea. Couple it with Canoe and small boat transport if folding. Wonderful concept for connecting wilderness trails in open forest and sandy hills. Please keep me posted on development. Would love to take part in serious testing of prototypes in Yukon and Northern Canada. Can fully document tests and adventures!
I’d like to see the Highline XC rated version, as in capable of performing in a Pro XC race !!
That is would essentially be our Paratrooper Elite model which uses the same frame as the Highline with upgraded components (full Shimano XT drivetrain and brakes, lightweight Mavic wheels, upgraded fork, etc).
I hope to soon install a Bafang mid point electric motor conversion in my Paratrooper, while still of course retaining the much loved quick fold abilities! I’ve been flying with two different Montague’s for nearly 20 years now, with zero issues.
Hey, I am also interested in Bafang. Can you share your experience with me/rest of the world? Specific model you used and do/don’t etc…? Would b most appreciated!
Is the Paratrooper still going to be available in its subdued green color. I hope so. Will the 2016 frame changes be applied to all the mountain bike models including the Paratrooper, or are the two different frame models going to continue to be available?
Hi Troy. The original Paratrooper will still be available in Cammy Green. The Paratrooper Elite seen here will eventually replace our current X90 model. The 2016 frame design, which we call DirectConnect, will be on all our bike models soon.
My husband and I are touring to South America on Montagues (currently in Mexico). We have a Paratroper and a Navigator and we love them! But we had to make a lot of adjustments to make them tour-friendly… any chance you will consider making a touring bike in the future?
Hey Brandy! Glad to hear you’re enjoying your Montagues. I think I’ve seen some of your photos on Instagram and I have to say I’m jealous of your adventure! We do have a few new models and updates coming out now that make for great touring bikes. We have a rear rack specific to our bikes called RackStand: http://www.montaguebikes.com/rackstand/
It comes on several models including the updated Navigator, now with wider tires and disc brakes: http://www.montaguebikes.com/navigator-folding-commuter-bike.html
and the Allston, which is an Alfine 11 internal gear hub, belt drive, and disc brake bike also great for touring: http://www.montaguebikes.com/allston-folding-bike/
I’d love to do a blog post feature on your trip, so shoot us an email to marketing@montaguebikes.com if you’re interested!
Is the frame material for the Paratrooper Elite made with Carbon? I have an X70 with aluminium and frankly it is quite heavy. But the quality of the bike is awesome.
The Elite frame is still aluminum, but with the Mavic wheelset and Shimano XT components, it’s the lightest mountain bike we’ve made to date.
I just placed my order for the Elite, which will replace my Paratrooper Pro. I’m excited to see how it performs with the revised Clix System and 250b 27.5″ tire. The 26″ was significantly holding me back on 10+mile urban rides. I know it’s not the weight of the bike considering I was using my ’14 Giant Trance on the Urban rides and can stay at the lead for 20+miles comfortably.
I’m glad to see you all have enough confidence in the product to continue to innovate and offer the elite!
The updated website looks fantastic too!
Thank you Jan! We hope you enjoy the new bike!
Well, I bought one of the 2015 versions so when you replace them with the 2016’s, I’ll have both!
Hey guys! I have been looking for a foldable mountain bike for a very long time.
I am based in Morocco. Is there anywhere here or in southern europe such as spain or portugal you sell these bikes. They look fantastic.
Hi Anthony. You could contact PlegaBike in Spain: http://plegabike.com/ or both our German and UK distributors regularly ship to other countries. You can find their contact info on our site at http://www.montaguebikes.com/global-bike-distributors/
I’d buy a fat bike version of this (or the paratrooper standard/pro) model in a heart beat. Been looking for a folding bike I can take out in the snow and have been coming up with nothing so far.
Will all the Mt bikes have 27.5 wheels and when will we see full specs?
Initially we will have two models with 27.5″ wheels, the Paratrooper Elite shown here and the Paratrooper Highline which you can see a preview of on this post: http://www.montaguebikes.com/folding-bikes-blog/2015/10/bikepacking-on-the-new-paratrooper-highline/
The new mountain models will be available later this month, so we should have full specs online in the next couple weeks.
I like the new frame latch mechanism, the old QR system always seemed a little hacky to me.
Is it still using clix QR for the front wheel, or migrated to 15mm thru-hole? Will the frame be available separately for custom builds?
Thanks Jack. We’re definitely excited about the new DirectConnect folding system. Not only does it remove the QR from the top tube, it provides stronger clamping between the two halves of the frame. Our front wheels will remain CLIX QR for ease of removal. Initially we will only have complete bikes available but it’s possible that we could have DirectConnect frames separately in the future.
Can older non direct connect with qr be upgraded to direct connect ?? Is that possible??
Unfortunately that’s not possible. The differences in the frame for the DirectConnect are too substantial to install it on one of our older models.
Im wanting to buy the Montague Paratrooper Pro bike , however I am based in Surbiton UK.
How much will it retail for, and when will I be available to purchase.
Could you also add the cost of importing and shipment cost?
We have a distributor in the UK who should have 2016 bike models in stock very soon. You can find contact info at http://www.montaguebikes.com/uk.html. They can give you more specific info on pricing and availability in the UK.
Hi.
I am thinking hard about the Paratrooper Pro, love the way it looks. I pull a Dog Trailer with my Jack Russell, Thor, merrily riding as I pedal. Will the Pro have any issues doing that? We are in the planning stages right now to fly (hopefully with the Pro’s) to Germany and then cycle the Via Claudia Augusta to Italy. I will be pulling Thor along as well in his trailer.
You should be able to mount your trailer to any of our bikes without issue. Most I’ve seen either clamp to the seatpost or attach to the axle via a quick release skewer. The Paratrooper Pro uses a standard rear wheel QR so that should be no problem. The seatpost diameter is 30.0, so if your trailer attaches that way just be sure the clamp can accommodate that width.
Well, I’ve owned my Paratrooper Pro for the last three years or so. I’m sold on the durability/longevity of the fame design.
My Paratrooper Pro is still going strong and it has been all around. It’s been my jack of all and master of none bike. Unfortunately the 26″ tire made it too slow for me on group/Urban rides leaving me to use my trail bike (Giant-Trance) on those. I just handed my Paratrooper Pro down to my wife and I just placed my order on Amazon for a ’16 Paratrooper Elite 🙂
I’m hoping the new 27.5″ tire on the Elite will help me get my speed up on the bike for the Urban/trail group rides… I’m no amateur, but I’m not a pro either and for some reason, I just couldn’t hang on Urban city rides past 7-10miles on the Paratrooper Pro with 26″ tire… same went for the trails. On my other bikes I’m in the lead of the pack with no issues (they are all 27.5″ 250b tires other than my road bike)….
With all that said, I’m glad to see it appears that Montague is progressing as a company. I hope to see them become more established in the biking market for more than just a convenient folding bike… perhaps become synonymous with other brands such as Cannonade, Trek, Giant and other major players. I don’t have any local dealers in Central Florida that sell Montague as a brand and the shop that was authorized went out of business. I would like to be able to eventually go to a bike shop that would have a variety of Montague’s bikes on hands.
I’m also glad to see the Clix system on the top frame was updated to below the frame. I tore some pants and fell off my bike a few times from cargo shorts snagging on it lol.
I am looking to purchase a bicycle that can fit in a standard size suitcase when folded. Please let me know if the Montague Paratrooper bicycle meets this standard. Ideally, I would like to purchase the Paratrooper Elite.
N.B. I’ve also sent a duplicate email to the Montague inbox.
It would require more disassembly than just folding the bike. The easiest way would be to put the wheels in a separate bag, but removing both wheels, the pedals, handlebars, and possibly the fork (depending on the model) and packing together would get you pretty close to the standard baggage size.
Any idea when the Paratrooper Highline will be available?
Hi Bruce. We should have Highlines back in stock toward the end of next week (week of Jan 9-13).
I have the Elite and have to say I am completely in love with it. Had to make a few adjustments to the handlebar stem, the stick one is uncomfortable for long rides. Now changed to a BBB and it is wonderful.
Stunning job guys.
I would love to see a Montague designed with an ability to be able to mount all three tyre sizes, 26-27.5 and 29. No one else does this, but I am certain that this would be possible with the right disign. If any design could implement this then the Paratrooper is certainly the most probable.
If you do I only want 45% for my input :)))))
I am in possession of 2 Montague Paratroopers 1 black & 1 Cameo green. Both were shipped to Sri- Lanka. Currently domiciled in USA . I really like those bikes . May be would try Elite too.
